AAUW Maryland members had the opportunity to meet 6 of the 11 AAUW Fellows and Career Development Grant recipients who are in Maryland at the October Board Meeting.
Winter Okoth, an international grant recipient from Kenya, is here to student for an M.S., Molecular microbiology and immunology at Johns Hopkins University , and intends to work on developing preventative drugs for malaria.
Angela Robinson teaches in the District of Columbia. She is a Career Development Grant recipient pursuing an M.A. in secondary special education and transition services, at George Washington University.
Besant Matawi is a medical doctor from Egypt. She is attending Johns Hopkins School of Public Health where she is studying for a Masters Degree. Her interest is in issues of violence against women.
Marceil Bowditch is a recipient of a Career Development Grant. She is attending the University of Maryland University College where she is pursuing an MBA so that she can advance her career.
Sarah Eiarsby, a physician in Egypt, also earned the grant to attend the School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins to study for a Dr.P.H. in Social behavioral intervention, to continue her work on preventing gender-based violence.
Kate Fialkowski was a corporate executive when she became guardian of her brother with developmental disabilities. She now is changing careers to address the needs of people with disabilities. She is has a Career Development Grant to study , biotechnology and ethics at Catholic University.
